So, let's say that you happen to have a computer with an NVIDIA Maxwell 2.0-based GPU running the AMD64 variant of Windows XP. Let's also say that you happened to recently acquire an extra monitor for this setup.
If this scenario applies to you, you may have found that, according to nv4_mini.sys, that wasn't a very good idea.
According to this Reddit post, this is caused by a fault in the drivers themselves, which was never flagged & fixed because the average PC user in 2016 wasn't even using the standard 32-bit release of Windows XP, much less the AMD64 version that seemingly nobody loves. As soon as the second monitor is initialized, a BSoD is triggered.
Luckily, there is a very simple fix that you can apply that completely solves this issue.
Firstly, you need to download nv4_mini.sys & videoprt.sys from this Internet Archive page, and store it somewhere that your XP installation can access. If you have not installed drivers yet, you should download those, too. I used version 368.81, if you want to match.
If you have fully installed the drivers already, you must start Windows XP in Safe Mode to continue following this tutorial. Make sure the files you downloaded are accessible in such an environment.
Otherwise, you should install the drivers you downloaded, but you must not restart yet.
Whether you're in Safe Mode, or have just installed the drivers, what you need to do next is copy nv4_mini.sys & videoprt.sys to (your system drive):\WINDOWS\System32\drivers.
After you do that, you may restart. If everything has gone as it should, all connected displays should function as intended!
